My Fitness Journey
Back in 2005, I hit my heaviest weight—300 pounds. I had just moved back to Chico after getting out of a toxic relationship. I had 3 children. The ages of 7, 4 and 1. As for myself I just barely turned 24. My youngest daughter had just turned one and a half, and I was completely overwhelmed. I was depressed, unhappy with myself, and struggling just to keep up with youngest. That’s when I had a wake-up call: I realized I couldn’t keep living this way. I needed to take my life back.
So, I did something simple. I bought Just Dance for my kids’ Wii, and I committed to doing 20 songs a day. That was my starting point. In just three months, I lost 60 pounds. But more than that, I gained the confidence to step out of survival mode and start living. I enrolled at Butte College and took two PE classes—weightlifting and dance aerobics. And that’s where I truly started falling in love with fitness.
Before all of that, I had gone through a lot. I had an emergency C-section with my youngest daughter and nearly lost my life. Not long after, I had emergency gallbladder surgery—again, I almost didn’t make it. So when I finally got to a place where I could move, run, and dance again, I made a promise to myself: I would start loving myself the way I wanted everyone else to love me.
That meant becoming a healthy mom, a healthy daughter, a healthy friend—and learning how to truly show up for myself. Fitness gave me a second chance at life, and I haven’t looked back.
Now, I’m becoming a certified personal trainer through NASM because I want to pour into others the way fitness poured into me. I want to help men and women make real, lasting changes—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too. My goal is to help you become 1% better every single day.
